AT just 17 years of age, Adi Bose Vakaturaga hopes to use the Vodafone Sugar Festival as a platform to advocate for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and their link to drugs.

The week-long festival began last Saturday at the Churchill Park carnival grounds in Lautoka.

The soft-spoken Waya, Yasawa, native with maternal links to Nabukeru, Yasawa, said she attended Ami Chandra High School and the Ba Provincial Freebird Institute in Lautoka. Ms Bose is sponsored by Manis Amusements and hopes to improve her public speaking skills.

Coming from a family of eight siblings, Ms Bose holds her family values in high regard.

“My family was surprised – but happy – because they didn’t know I would be a contestant,” she said.

Despite being nervous, Ms Bose said she hoped to gel well with the remaining four contestants while also keeping her sights set on attaining the crown.

The queens will participate in their first public judging tonight.
