SIX people accused of the importation of more than 4.8 kilograms of methamphetamine earlier this year have been further charged for assisting in bringing in two more consignments of the drug.
Before Nadi Magistrate Mareta Tikoisuva yesterday were Nigerian Chukwuemeka Phabian, businessman Apenisa Matadigo, police officers Uraia Tuidama Bolalailai and Viliame Nalagi, former Fiji Airways driver Neumi Donumainasava and senior customs officer Osea Raicama Dakai.
They were implicated again for allegedly facilitating the importation of a second consignment containing 2160.8 grams of meth and a third consignment containing 978.967grams of the illicit substance between March and July this year.
Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions John Rabuku informed the court the accused men had an active case before the High Court.
He requested this case be transferred to the High Court saying the State intended to consolidate the charges in all three cases, and did not oppose bail as all accused had abided by bail conditions imposed in the previous case.
Chukwuemeka Phabian is represented by Nadi lawyer Unaisi Baleilevuka, who also appeared on behalf of Valenitabua and Associates for Osea Raicama Dakai while Apenisa Matadigo, Uraia Tuidama Bolalailai, Viliame Nalagi and Neumi Donumainasava have sought assistance from the Legal Aid Commission.
They were granted non-cash bail of $5000 under strict conditions.
The case has been transferred to the High Court in Lautoka and adjourned to November 25 for mention.
