Man dies in Tavua road accident

A man in his twenties died following a road accident in Tavua early this morning.

The incident occurred at around 1am at Toko, Tavua, when a vehicle went off the road and hit a tree.

The deceased was a passenger in the vehicle that was driven by a youth.

Both occupants were rushed to Tavua Hospital where the passenger  was pronounced dead on arrival.

The deceased was from Lowcost, Vatukoula.

Police said the driver allegedly lost control of his vehicle causing it to veer off the road, whereby the two men sustained serious injuries.

The national road death toll currently stands at 65 compared to 51 for the same period last year.
