Telecom Fiji Ltd and Solomon Telekom have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen technical cooperation and support skills development in the telecommunications field.

Engineers and technical staff from Solomon Telekom will undergo specialised training at Telecom Fiji through this partnership.

They will be able to enhance their knowledge and build practical skills in key areas such as fibre network planning, design and operation, internet and broadband systems, and network optimisation.

Telecom Fiji chief executive officer Charles Goundar said they would deliver hands-on training using their experience in optical fibre technology from network planning and setup to daily operations.

He said participations would also learn about core infrastructure, network connections to homes and businesses and how large-scale systems are monitored and managed.

The training will combine practical sessions, field visits and technical workshops led by the engineering and operations team in Fiji and provide real world exposure and experience, he added.

“This MOU marks an important step in building stronger regional partnerships,” Mr Goundar said.

“By sharing out technical knowledge and expertise, we’re helping to strengthen telecommunications capacity across the Pacific,” he said.

Mr Goundar said the partnership reflected the two companies’ commitment to regional collaboration, knowledge sharing and advancing telecommunications services for Pacific communities.

The MOU was signed by Mr Goundar and Solomon Telekom chief executive Christina Lasaqa last month.
