FIJI Water Flying Fijians flyhalf Caleb Muntz has made significant progress in his playing career since his international debut in 2022 against Tonga in Suva.

An injury on the eve of the 2023 Rugby World Cup sidelined the Savusavu native from making his world cup debut.

Although Muntz was gutted to watch the world cup from home, he was determined to make his comeback.

On the back of two impressive super rugby seasons, Muntz has made his way back to the national team and made tremendous strides ever since his recovery to become incumbent flyhalf for the Flying Fijians.

Head coach Mick Byrne credits his assistant Aaron Mauger as an influential figure in Muntz’s progress.

“I was lucky enough to coach Aaron Mauger as a player and Aaron was a player that challenged me because he really thought about the game and had a lot to offer, and it’s great to see Aaron and Caleb grow together two very high rugby IQ people,” Byrne said.

Bynes says Muntz’ desire to grow and understand his role on how to drive the team has been his greatest attribute.

“Caleb for one of the better terms is a great student of the game, which means he understands the game really well and takes pride in understanding what we trying to do. His grown enormously in the last two or three years in that area, and as far as understanding and getting to understand the way we want to play his as good as I’ve coached in that area.

“So, it’s pleasing when the two Aaron and Caleb are together there’s a lot of thinking going on a lot of rugby intelligence going on in that conversation.”
