The extended preparation time for the FIJI Waters Flying Fijians has boosted the confidence of the team as they finalise preparation for tomorrow’s showdown against England in Twickenham.
Head coach Mick Byrne called the atmosphere “exciting,” especially with a packed stadium expected for the game.
“We’ve been in camp for a couple of weeks and it’s been awesome,” said Byrne.
“We’ve been able to get real good preparation in. We’ve got good clarity on the gameplan in mind, which the boys will be able to execute at pace during the weekend, and we are looking forward to doing that,” he said.
Fiji’s recent meetings with England at Twickenham have been close contests.
They won the first match 30-22 but lost the second by just six points during the 2023 Rugby World Cup quarter-final, 30-24. Byrne believes those experiences have helped build the team’s confidence.
“It takes away that element of players being over roared by the occasion, which keeps a real good focus on our ability to play our game and that’s one of the things that probably take a little bit of confidence into the weekend is, we’ll be able to really settle into real well into our game,” he explained.
With momentum on their side and clarity in their strategy, the Flying Fijians are poised to make a powerful statement tomorrow in Twickenham’s Allianz Stadium.
