PARENTS are being urged to take their children to a doctor or the nearest health centre if they show flu-like symptoms.
Health Minister Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu issued the appeal following the ministry’s observation of a rise in influenza-like illnesses (ILI) throughout Fiji’s four divisions.
“Awareness is put out for the general public, and the onus is on the respective schools and the school management,” Dr Lalabalvu said.
“And if they see a number of children are presenting to school with flu-like illnesses, the onus is on them to ensure they’re isolated or they go home.”
Dr Lalabalvu said the ministry was continuously monitoring the number of cases in all divisions and raising awareness on the need for hygiene.
“So, we’re continuously updated on the numbers, and especially should it reach numbers whereby we declare an outbreak.”
Dr Lalabalvu said they were also conducting HIV awareness in the outer islands after cases were recorded there.
