Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka told Parliament today that the Government of Vanuatu has gifted 44 acres of land to Fiji in reciprocity for a parcel of land near My Suva Park that Fiji had previously allocated to Vanuatu.
Mr Rabuka said the symbolic exchange reflected the deep friendship and mutual respect between the two Pacific nations and their commitment to closer regional ties.
“Last week, the Director-General of the Ministry of Lands of Vanuatu officially handed over to our Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs the title to a 44-acre property gifted to the Government and people of Fiji,” Mr Rabuka said.
He said the site includes two existing buildings, which Fiji could use for future diplomatic, cultural, or community purposes.
“Vanuatu’s generous gesture is made in recognition of the strong bonds that unite our two nations.”
“This exchange not only strengthens bilateral relations but also reaffirms our region’s shared commitment to cooperation, regional development, and people-to-people links.”
The land near My Suva Park was earlier granted to Vanuatu for similar purposes, symbolising the growing Pacific partnership and reciprocity between the two Melanesian countries.
