Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has rejected claims that cases of cheating in national examinations are on the rise.
He said in Parliament the Ministry’s policies on exam administration are clear and publicly available.
He was responding in Parliament yesterday to Opposition MP Hem Chand, who questioned what measures were in place to prevent cheating and protect the confidentiality of exam papers.
“Mr Speaker, I call on the Ministry of Education to explain what mechanisms are in place to monitor examination centres during external exams,” Mr Chand said.
“Cheating in national examinations is on the rise, and this threatens to undermine the credibility of Fiji’s education system.”
The people are not aware of how the system works, and that is where the problem lies.”
Mr Radrodro dismissed the claim, saying the Ministry’s examination and assessment policies were well established.
He urged Mr Chand to provide evidence of any cases of cheating.
“Maybe it happened during your time, when you were there.”
