The Fiji Meteorological Service has warned that another trough of low pressure is expected to develop over the country from tomorrow, bringing rain and thunderstorms through the weekend.
In its latest weather bulletin issued at 5:30am, the Met Office said a weak trough of low pressure currently lingering over the northern parts of Fiji is expected to move away later today.
However, a new system will quickly follow, likely affecting most parts of the country by Friday.
For today, cloudy periods with showers and a few thunderstorms are expected over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, the Lomaiviti group and northern Lau, with conditions easing later in the day.
From tomorrow, however, showers are forecast to increase, becoming more widespread and heavier in the afternoon — especially across Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni, Lau, Lomaiviti, and Kadavu.
The Met Office has cautioned that persistent localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low-lying areas.
