AN Australian national appeared in the Suva Magistrate’s Court yesterday facing charges of criminal trespass and assault causing actual bodily harm.
Dr Andrew Robert Brewin, an obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, was represented by Abhishek Patel of Patel Skiba Lawyers.
The prosecution was led by Tomasi Senimoli from the Police Prosecutions Office.
The victim in the case has been identified as Jeff Larson, the managing director of Nanuku Resort in Galoa.
Dr Brewin was granted bail under strict conditions, including a $500 bail bond with sureties. His passport was surrendered to the court, and a stop departure order issued to prevent him from leaving the country.
Mr Patel requested the court to prohibit media coverage of the case, citing concerns that publicity could negatively affect his client’s professional reputation and relationship with patients. However, Magistrate Sufia Hamza denied the request.
The case has been adjourned to November 25 and will be heard at the Navua Magistrate’s Court.
