The Fiji Meteorological Service has extended its heavy tain alert to now cover the entire country, warning of possible flash flooding and traffic disruptions as widespread rain continues to affect the islands.

Previously issued for the eastern half of Viti Levu, the Yasawa Group, Northern Division, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu, the alert now applies to all parts of Fiji as a trough of low pressure remains slow-moving over the region.

According to the latest weather bulletin from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, the trough is bringing cloud, showers, and periods of heavy rain, which are expected to persist until later tomorrow.

“Occasional rain, heavy at times, and a few thunderstorms are expected across the Fiji group,” the Met Office said, adding that forecast confidence remains moderate.

Significant rainfall from 8am Monday to 8am Tuesday is as follows:

  • Tubenasolo: 94.0mm

  • Nagado: 76.5mm

  • Lautoka: 74.0mm

  • Narayabale: 68.0mm

  • Dreketililai: 47.0mm

  • Tokotoko: 34.0mm
