The Fiji Meteorological Service has placed the country under a La Niña Watch, with climate models indicating the likely development of a weak La Niña event between November 2025 and January 2026.
According to the Fiji Climate Outlook for November 2025 to April 2026 released on Friday, the country can expect normal to above-normal rainfall across most areas in the coming months.
Rainfall for November is expected to be average or higher than usual across the Fiji Group, while conditions in Rotuma remain uncertain.
For the November 2025–January 2026 period, above-normal rainfall is likely across the country, including Rotuma, and the trend is expected to continue into February–April 2026.
Both maximum and minimum temperatures are projected to remain above normal throughout the wet season, contributing to humid conditions.
The Met Service noted that as Fiji approaches La Niña conditions, the country is likely to experience increased rainfall and potential flooding risks, especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
“La Niña events typically enhance rainfall across Fiji, particularly during the wet season,” the report stated, urging communities to stay alert and prepare for possible weather disruptions.
