It all boils down to dedication and hard work as Apete Narogo, a 23-year-old rugby player from Nakorovou, Serua, secures a spot in the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s extended squad in preparation for the upcoming HSBC SVNS Dubai 7s.

Alongside him, two other new players, Alivereti Nainoca and Nacani Boginisoko, are also striving to earn places in the final squad for the Dubai tournament.

Narogo’s journey in rugby began after he completed his studies in form 7 at Lomary Secondary School.

Despite facing challenges, his passion for the sport led him to become a member of Dominion Brothers and Devo Babas rugby teams.

“It was a blessing from God that I have been called up to join the Fiji 7s extended squad, it was one of every Fijian boy’s dream is to wear the white jersey and represent the country, and this was a blessing opportunity for me,” said Narogo.

“My rugby journey started off after I left school in form 7 at Lomary Secondary School, most of the time I use to miss school to go for rugby competitions.

“Even though I reached form 7, the passion of playing rugby was in me, so I joined the Dominion Brothers rugby team, from there I just moved forward with the level of competition.”

His hard work and perseverance paid off when he received the opportunity to be a part of the Fiji 7s extended squad.

He fondly recalls his experiences playing in the Fiji Bitter 7s series, which equipped him with valuable skills and knowledge that have propelled him to the national team.

The Dubai 7s will be held from November 29- December 1.
