The National Federation Party (NFP) has alleged that an orchestrated plot involving individuals in Fiji and abroad is aimed at derailing the Coalition Government.
In a statement issued yesterday, NFP general secretary Kamal Iyer said Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka received an email on Thursday from Australian citizen Alexandra Forwood, claiming to warn him that NFP leader Professor Biman Prasad was blaming the Prime Minister for plotting his removal from Cabinet.
“The NFP is thankful to the Prime Minister who, as a matter of courtesy, forwarded the email to Prof Prasad and the party,” Mr Iyer said.
“This email is clearly part of a greater conspiracy involving certain individuals both in Fiji and abroad, raising questions about the independence of FICAC.”
Mr Iyer said the email, which he described as “malicious, full of lies and filth,” was designed to create division between the Prime Minister and the NFP leader.
The NFP questioned how Ms Forwood appeared to have prior knowledge of FICAC’s investigation into Prof Prasad, saying she had posted online about a summons five days before it was delivered.
“It is clear as daylight that FICAC is full of leaks and Forwood has access to information, either directly or through a third party,” Mr Iyer said.
Mr Iyer said the party was alarmed that Forwood appeared to have prior knowledge of FICAC proceedings, claiming she posted online about a court summons before it was officially delivered to Prof Prasad.
“It is clear as daylight that FICAC is full of leaks and that Forwood has access to information, either directly or through a third party,” he said.
“Others who have long abandoned their land of birth and are living abroad are conspiring together with some based locally to what has now become a heinous plot to try and derail the Coalition Government.”
