The Aspen Medical–managed Ba Hospital has officially been awarded the Gold Seal of Approval from Joint Commission International (JCI) — the world’s leading authority on healthcare quality and patient safety.

This recognition makes Ba Hospital the first hospital in the Pacific to receive JCI accreditation, a distinction reserved for healthcare organisations that meet stringent, evidence-based standards across patient safety, clinical care, leadership, and facility management.

Aspen Medical’s CEO in Fiji, Gavin Whiteside, said the milestone was a testament to years of commitment and collaboration.

“This is more than just a plaque on the wall. It’s our promise to every Fijian family in the Western Division that the services delivered at Ba Hospital are world class,” he said.

“I would like to thank Executive Director of Nursing Ana Jimenez, whose leadership and tireless mentorship have been the driving force behind this transformational change.”

Executive Director of Nursing and JCI Lead, Ana Jimenez, described the recognition as humbling and deeply meaningful.

“I am just the conductor. The team brought the music to life,” she said.

“From clinical to non-clinical staff, everyone played their part, and they played it from the heart.”

The accreditation follows a rigorous review of Ba Hospital’s systems, positioning it as a model for healthcare excellence and continuous improvement in the Pacific region.
