THE 2025 TISI Sangam World Cup kicked off yesterday at Churchill Park, Lautoka, with thrilling action in the Masters division setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting tournament.

In the opening match, New Zealand Papatoetoe Masters edged Lautoka Masters 2-1, while New Zealand Middlemore Masters dominated Ba Masters with a convincing 4-0 win.

Nadi Uciwai Masters also made a strong start, defeating Australia Sydney Masters 1-0.

Games board chairperson Upendra Gounder said the first day brought energy and excitement despite a slow start.

“It’s been an exciting day so far.

“It started off slow but the momentum picked up heading into the afternoon. We thought the weather would be a factor for the overseas teams, but they did well.”

He added that the mixed results in the early rounds showed how well-prepared teams were coming into the competition.

“Most teams have come prepared, and the excitement is definitely there,” he said.

The tournament continues today with more matches in various categories as teams battle for early points and national pride.
