The recruitment of an additional 1000 police officers reaffirms Government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of every Fijian.

This, according to Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad, who was chief guest at the opening of the new $36million Nakasi Police Station.

He said the increase from 5550 to 6650 officers will strengthen police presence nationwide.

“This expansion, costing an additional $40m annually, is a worthwhile investment in the safety and security of our people,” Pro Prasad said.

He added that a larger force would enable quicker responses to crimes and better community engagement.

The Government has also increased the police budget to $240min the 2025-2026 financial year, showing continued investment in law and order.

Prof Prasad described the facility as a “symbol of safety, trust, and progress”.

The new complex features modern interview rooms, separate cells for women and men, a command centre, and specialised units, including a tourist police unit.

The station also serves as a major hub for the Eastern Division headquarters, overseeing five stations and 13 community posts across four provinces.

“This investment reaffirms our government’s unwavering commitment.

“Without safety and security, there can be no sustainable development.”

The facility will cater to more than 45,000 residents across Nakasi, Wainibuku, Davuilevu, and Koronivia.
