THE 2025 Paddle for Cancer event came to an emotional close at Wailoaloa Beach yesterday, marking another successful year for the ocean challenge that brings together communities in support of the fight against cancer in Fiji.
Event Chair and Castaway Island Resort General Manager, Steven Andrew, said he was overwhelmed by the turnout, teamwork, and spirit shown throughout the 36-kilometre paddle from Castaway Island Resort to Aquarius on the Beach, Wailoaloa.
“As chairman of the Paddle for Cancer committee, I’m so appreciative of our hardworking team.
“It’s not easy organising an event like this involving four different organisations — it takes a lot of planning, logistics, and coordination to make it happen,” Andrew said.
Andrew said the committee’s diversity and shared commitment made the event a success once again.
“I’m so blessed to be part of such a committee. We made it happen, and seeing the reception here at Wailoaloa Beach was emotional. It goes to show that people do care cancer is a disease that has touched so many communities and families in Fiji and around the world,” he said.
The event brought together paddlers from Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, Castaway Island Resort, Six Senses Fiji, and the Nadi Bay Canoe Club, all uniting for a cause close to many hearts.
“For us on the Paddle for Cancer committee, creating such an event is an honour. We’re truly blessed to be part of this initiative.
“A huge vinaka vakalevu to the Outrigger team, Nadi Bay Canoe Club, Six Senses, and Castaway Island teams for taking up the initiative and enduring a gruelling 36km race for a meaningful cause.”
The event, now in its second year, continues to raise awareness and funds for the Christian Pesamino Leukaemia Foundation, supporting individuals and families affected by cancer across Fiji.
