THE $20million redeveloped and rebranded Damodar Arts Village officially opened its door on Thursday.
The brand launch marks a major milestone in the revival of Fiji’s iconic cultural centre and the transformation of Pacific Harbour into a vibrant hub for culture, lifestyle and tourism.
Redeveloped by Damodar Yatulau Pte Limited – a joint venture between the Damodar Group and Yatulau Company Limited – the Damodar Arts Village introduces new attractions and amenities to enhance visitors’ and residents’ experience, and boost local tourism and economic activity.
“The Damodar Arts Village is more than a cultural revival, it’s a destination,” Damodar Yatulau Pte Limited chairperson Dayanand Damodar said.
“We wanted to restore the spirit of the old Cultural Centre while creating a sustainable attraction that supports local artists, entrepreneurs and the Pacific Harbour community,” Mr Damodar said.
Yatulau Company Ltd chairperson Viliame Leqa said their partnership united investment, culture and community.
“Together, we’ve redeveloped a place that celebrates who we are as Fijians while offering new opportunities for local employment, education and creative expression,” Mr Leqa said.
At the heart of the property is a replica of an authentic Fijian village on an island, and features a bure kalou, chief’s bure and an artisan bure and guests can also witness meke performances and the firewalking ceremony performed by the renowned firewalkers of Beqa.
The Tiki Hut has also been reopened, transforming from a simple bar into a multi-faceted entertainment venue, and the introduction of a cinema – Starlight Cinema.
The managing company has also issued an expression of interest for potential clients to join its boutique shops, local craft outlets and cafes.
