The Fiji Seismology Unit has recorded a total of 182 earthquakes across the Fiji region for the month of September 2025, ranging in magnitude from 1.1 to 5.5.

According to the Fiji Seismology September 2025 Earthquake Summary, two of these events were felt by the public.

The first was a magnitude 4.7 earthquake on September 13, felt in the Yasawa Islands and parts of the Western Division, including Lautoka and Nadi.

The second was a magnitude 4.3 earthquake on September 23, felt in parts of Vanua Levu, with reports received from Lekutu, Bua.

The Seismology Unit reported that the northern region of Fiji, particularly around Vanua Levu, experienced a high concentration of shallow earthquake activity.

These events extended from the northern Yasawas to Cikobia Island along the Fiji Fracture Zone, consistent with expected seismic patterns for that fault line.

Meanwhile, deep earthquake events, ranging from 300 to 600 kilometres in depth, were concentrated east of Fiji, mainly under the Lau Basin. These were associated with subduction-related activity, caused by the Pacific Plate moving beneath the Indo-Australian Plate.

Other areas with minor shallow activity included Kadavu Island, Southeast Viti Levu, and around Savusavu Bay in Vanua Levu.
