PRIME Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says his salary would remain unchanged despite the added responsibility of assuming the portfolios of Manoa Kamikamica who’s resigned from the Cabinet over FICAC charges.
Saying Fiji could function effectively without one of its three deputy prime ministers, Mr Rabuka confirmed he would now oversee the portfolios previously held by Mr Kamikamica – trade, co-operatives, small and medium enterprises, and communications.
He said no new minister would be appointed to replace Mr Kamikamica.
“His portfolio responsibilities are deposited under the Prime Minister,” Mr Rabuka said. “Pay is not based on portfolios.”
“We can run without one deputy prime minister.”
Mr Kamikamica stepped down amid ongoing legal proceedings brought by FICAC involving charges of perjury and giving false information to a public servant.
He returned to the country on Wednesday night, marking his final day as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications.
Manoa still an MP, says Rabuka
THE support of the People’s Alliance party towards Cabinet Minister Manoa Kamikamica hinges on the outcome of his upcoming court appearance.
Prime Minister and party leader Sitiveni Rabuka said yesterday that despite stepping down from his ministerial roles, Mr Kamikamica remains the party’s deputy leader and a member of Parliament.
Mr Rabuka explained that Mr Kamikamica voluntarily vacated his positions as Deputy Prime Minister and Cabinet minister but continues as deputy party leader.
