The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) has confirmed that its Chief Executive Officer has been suspended pending an investigation into allegations that have recently arisen.
No details were released on the nature of allegations against Mr Cawaki.
In a statement, Acting CEO Iliesa Batisaresare said the CEO was updated on the progress of the investigation on Monday, 20 October 2025.
“Once the investigation is complete, a press statement may be issued,” Batisaresare said.
“No further comment will be made at this stage for legal reasons.”
He urged the public and the media to avoid speculation, noting that doing so “only serves to create confusion.”
Batisaresare reaffirmed MSAF’s commitment to its core responsibilities, stating,
“The Authority will continue to place passenger safety above all else in fulfilling its mandated role.”
