Fijians across the country came together yesterday to celebrate Diwali — the festival of lights — with prayers, family gatherings and dazzling displays of colour and joy.

Temples, schools, offices and homes glowed with diyas and lanterns as communities observed the annual festival that symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. At various Diwali events, devotees offered prayers, shared sweets and performed traditional dances.

In Suva, crowds filled the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple, while schools and offices hosted celebrations promoting cultural harmony.

Many Fijians described the occasion as a time of reflection and renewal.

In his Diwali message, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka urged citizens to embrace peace and unity.

“Let the light of Diwali inspire us to show compassion and understanding toward one another,” he said.
