THE Sangam World Cup has been confirmed to be held in Lautoka from October 30.
The tournament is a significant event as part of the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam Fiji’s centennial anniversary campaign and marks the first time the World Cup will be held on home soil.
Hosted by the TISI Sangam Fiji, this year’s tournament scheduled from October 30 – November 2 marks a major milestone.
It returns after an 11-year lapse, following previous tournaments in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand (the last of which was held in 2014).
TISI Sangam, founded by Sevaka Ratnam Sadhu Kuppuswamy in 1926, will celebrate its 100th anniversary during the Easter weekend in April 2026.
A special Sangam World Cup Board has been established to organise this historic tournament.
The tournament will feature both local and overseas teams competing across multiple sports.
Sangam World Cup Board chairperson Upendra Gounder confirmed that a total of 22 soccer teams will compete across three divisions.
The breakdown is as follows: Premier Division: 10 teams (6 local and 4 overseas), Masters Division: 8 teams (4 local and 4 overseas), Legends Division: 4 teams (2 local and 2 overseas)
The netball competition will feature eight teams, including some from overseas. Overseas teams will also participate in the snooker and golf competitions.
The soccer tournament will be held at Churchill Park, netball will take place at Lautoka’s multi-purpose court, snooker matches are scheduled for the Northern Club and South Seas club while golf will be played at the Denarau Golf Course in Nadi.
In the soccer division, Gounder explained Lautoka will comprise of players from Rifle Range and other Sangam teams in the Sugar Cirty.
Suva will also include players from Navua, Rewa, and Nasinu. Ba will represent the north-west branches of Sangam and will have players from the districts of Tavua and Rakiraki while Nadi Sangam will have players from other branches in the district and from Sigatoka.
