The People’s Alliance party members questioned last year’s secretariat party allowances, which totalled $214,412 last year.

This expense, shown in the party’s financial report for 2024, was discussed at the party’s annual general meeting yesterday held at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva.

The party treasurer Keni Dakudreketi presented the financial report which revealed this amount.

A member questioned the high expenses and asked the management to explain details of the expenses which he believed was too high.

The member also asked whether the work carried out by the party secretariat was worth the $214,412.

Party general secretary Sila Balawa explained the payments included allowances for workers in PAP branches around the country.

He explained that since he returned to office, he has not been paid.

“I’m back on volunteer basis and we have offices in Nadi, Lautoka, Ba and Labasa so that’s where the secretariat expenses have gone to,” Mr Balawa explained.

“We pay them. We do not have campaign directors at the moment so we work with these people at the secretariat.”

Mr Dakuidreketi also verified to members that the secretariat didn’t mean payments for Mr Balawa only but the party workers in the branches.
