LAUTOKA is aiming to take a strong 120-member squad to the National Primary School Athletics Games in Suva, following a successful two-day Lautoka Primary Schools Athletics Zone meet.

Lautoka Primary Schools Athletics Association president Adriu Qio said the meet, which saw over 1,000 young athletes compete in both track and field events, provided the perfect platform to identify the district’s best talents.

“From this meet, we will select our Lautoka team to represent Lautoka at the National Games in Suva in Week 12 of school.

“There are 24 primary schools altogether, and we have seen our competition grow compared to last year. I thank the teachers and parents for their support in making this two-day event a success,” Qio said.

He acknowledged the dedication of teachers and the executive committee for putting together a well-organized and enjoyable programme.

Qio added that while Lautoka did not secure a placing at last year’s National Games, they are determined to improve this year by sending only their top-performing athletes to the capital.

“Our goal is to take 120 of the best athletes to Suva this year,” he said confidently.
