THE challenge has been laid for the ANC Cakobau Bowl with the Fiji Corrections Service vowing to give holders Police a good run for their money come October 31.
The ANC Cakobau Bowl Challenge, now into its second year, was officially launched at the Fiji Corrections Service coffee shop in Korovou yesterday.
The rugby match signifies the rich historical ties between the FSC and the Fiji Police Force.
“Our roots go way back to the 1800s, 1874 was when we were officially established as part of the law enforcement in Levuka under the command of the Police before an act was passed in 1884 for information of a prison service,” acting FCS Commissioner Sevuloni Naucukidi stated
“The Fiji Police Force won the Annual Native Constabulary Bowl Challenge against the Fiji Prison Service 45-31 at the Nasova ground last year and I want to inform our counterparts that this year we are better prepared, and we hope that we’ll give you the best preparation before the Sukuna Bowl.
“When the dust settles at Albert Park on Friday on October 31, I assure you all a good run for your money.”
Police through acting Commissioner Aporosa Lutunauga gladly accepted the challenge.
“We have come a long way, we were one, but we are still one under the legal framework that we have. As far as the legal system in Fiji is concerned, we are first respondents and you are the last on the ground to rehabilitate them and reintegrate into society.
“That Tanoa come the date of battle, two different fields, two different teams but with one purpose and that is to look after the people of Fiji and ensure their safety and security. With that, we accept the challenge but remember the ANC was commandeer by the commissioner of Police,” Lutunauga said.
The event is also part of the Corrections’ 150th celebration which will begin from October 26-31.
