Fiji claims first win

THE Fiji men’s basketball team finally registered its first win at the Melanesian Cup yesterday following two shocking losses on Monday and Tuesday.

Fiji thrashed Vanuatu 123-61 in their third match of the tournament.

Tyrone Mclennan raked up 44 points in the match and ranked the highest in efficiency.

Jordan Lum Kon had some impressive numbers as well with eight steals and six assists.

Veteran Joshua Fox had the highest in rebounds with nine.

Fiji had a 51-shooting percentage compared to that of 37 to Vanuatu.

The Earl Hughes-coached national side will face New Caledonia in its next match on Friday.

On Monday, Fiji went down 67-70 to the host nation, Solomon Islands and narrowly lost 56-63 to Papua New Guinea on Tuesday.
