IT was a hard-fought match between the two teams, with Kadavu rugby women’s team securing their place in the quarter-finals after defeating Naitasiri 29-26, in the round 9 of the Subrails Marama Cup competition, held at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka yesterday.

In the first half, Naitasiri took the lead with two tries, but Kadavu quickly responded with great ball work and strong plays from their key players, resulting in two tries of their own. The score was 14-12 in favor of Naitasiri at halftime.

The second half was an intense showdown as the points were close, but Kadavu came out strong and ultimately clinched the victory.

Team manager Paulina Ratuwara expressed her pride in the team’s performance and their achievement in reaching the quarter-finals as newcomers to the competition.

She emphasised the team’s preparation for the crucial match and their determination to succeed.

“It was a tough match, but I’m proud of the girls performance to get the win,” said Ratuwara.

As a team that’s new to the competition, winning the match and booking a place in the quarter-final is a big achievement for the team.

“We prepared well for this match we knew its a do or die match, so we are proud and happy for this achievement.

Naitasiri proved to be a formidable opponent, but Kadavu’s strategic discussions during halftime about defense and ball work paid off in the end.

“Naitasiri was a tough team, they was leading in the first half, in the break we talked to the girls about defense, and ball work and we got that done in the second half.”

Ratuwara acknowledged that there is still room for improvement and that the team will focus on addressing their weaknesses in preparation for the upcoming quarter-final.

She adds the team’s success would not have been possible without the support of the management, players, and their families.

Ratuwara extended her gratitude to everyone involved in the victory and highlighted the importance of continued hard work and dedication as they progress in the competition.
