THE Fiji under-17 football team presented its traditional itatau to the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, at the Fiji Football Academy in Ba yesterday.

The team, led by head coach Sunil Kumar, is set to represent Fiji in the upcoming tournament in Qatar.

In addressing the players, Saukuru emphasised the honor of wearing the national jersey and the rare opportunity they have.

“Not every teenager gets this opportunity but you are the fortunate ones to be honoured with this,” Saukuru said.

Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel also shared words of encouragement, reminding the team that they are just as capable as any of their opponents.

“They have two legs and hands and so do you.

“Let’s not have the mentality that they are bigger than us. Be fearless when you enter the field and the result will speak for itself,” Patel said.

Fiji has been drawn in a challenging pool alongside football powerhouses Argentina, Belgium, and Tunisia.

Despite the tough group, team officials and supporters remain confident in the young squad’s potential.

The team will leave for Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, where they will continue their final phase of preparations over the next two weeks.

They are scheduled to arrive in Qatar on October 29. Nasinu representative Maikah Dau will captain the side.
