Suva Rugby team is gearing up for a crucial showdown against Nadi in the final round of the Skipper Cup competition, set to take place tomorrow at Bidesi Park in Suva.

The team has had a successful campaign thus far, securing victories in rounds one through seven, with a recent setback against Naitasiri in round eight.

Despite the defeat, Suva remains determined and focused on securing a spot in the quarter-finals.

Suva head coach Solomone Nute expressed confidence in the team’s preparations leading up to the match.

He acknowledged the challenge posed by Nadi, particularly with the inclusion of Drua players and Fiji National seven’s players in their lineup.

“The boys have been preparing well throughout the week, we were unfortunate to get the win against Naitasiri, but the show much goes on, and now we are focused on Nadi for this clash,” said Nute.

Injuries from their previous match against Naitasiri have necessitated some player rotations, but Nute emphasised the team’s depth and the readiness of replacements to step in.

“We have few injuries in the team, from our game against Naitasiri but it’s great to have replacements, we have a good depth of players.

“The Drua players and also the Fiji national seven’s players will be featuring this week, so will be hoping for a good match on Saturday.”

With the stakes high in the final round, Suva understands the importance of securing a win to advance to the next stage of the competition.

“Nadi will be also be coming out with a large number of Drua players that will be in the team, so it won’t be an easy task, we need to be focused and ready, get our game plan going and do our best.

“As the competition comes to a do or die stage, we need this win to book our place in the quarter-final, so this game is important for us, and the players are preparing accordingly.”

Nute highlighted the significance of fan support and extended gratitude to all supporters who have backed the team throughout the season.

He encouraged Suva fans to come out in full force and rally behind the team as they strive for victory against Nadi.

Suva will take on Nadi at 3pm.

They last met in the semi-finals of the 2024 Skipper Cup where Suva defeated Nadi 38-16 in Nausori.
