Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says public trust remains a top priority for the Fiji Police Force, as 39 officers previously seconded to the now closed Counter Narcotics Bureau a specialised unit return to general duty following an extensive reintegration program.
Speaking to the media today, Commissioner Tudravu confirmed that the officers had undergone a structured reintegration process at the Police Mobile Force.
“Aside from the officers that have been charged, the returning 39 officers have undergone an extensive Reintegration Program, including counselling and briefings by various unit heads,” he said.
He said the officers were back in uniform and had taken up new postings as of last week.
“They were seconded as police officers and returned as police officers,” he said.
“Understandably, a lot has been said about the establishment of the Bureau, but I want to reaffirm our collective commitment to restoring public trust in policing, a pledge also made by the returning officers themselves.”
Commissioner Tudravu clarified that while he could not speak for the decisions made under previous leadership, the force was taking active steps to review and re-align the operations of the unit in question.
“The Counter Narcotics Bureau is undergoing a review, and we will be working closely with the Ministry to ensure proper alignment of its operations,” he said.
“However, I want to stress that with any deployment of resources, there must be a clear demarcation of roles and responsibilities.”
He said the broader efforts in the War on Drugs would continue under the Serious and Organised Crime and Intelligence Department, in partnership with frontline units and stakeholders.
“This fight remains a top priority, and our focus is to ensure all operations are carried out with integrity, professionalism, and accountability,” he said.
