Fiji’s two main port of entries in Suva and Lautoka are expected to have close to 60 ship visits this month, the Fiji Ports Terminal Ltd’s monthly shipping schedule says.
Port of Suva will receive about 38 ships, compared with Lautoka’s 19.
Of the visits to the capital, 26 would be by container ships, three tankers, three car carriers, two cruise ships, two cable ships and one wheat carrier and naval ship.
There will be two cruise ship visits to Fiji this month, Disney Wonder, which will only visit Suva, and MS Zaandam which will visit both city ports.
According to ship records available on Wikipedia.com, Disney Wonder is a cruise ship operated by Disney Cruise Line.
It is the second ship to join the Disney fleet on entering service in 1999, following the completion of its sister ship, Disney Magic. The other four ships in the fleet are the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wish and Disney Treasure.
MS Zaandam is a Rotterdam-class cruise ship owned by Holland America Line, launched in 2000 by Fincantieri and named after the city of Zaandam, Netherlands. It is a sister ship to the Volendam, carrying 1432 passengers with a focus on music-themed decor, rock memorabilia, and a spacious, uncrowded atmosphere.
The Chinese naval ship, Ark Silk Road, which has been in the country for a week is expected to depart Suva today.
The vessel has been providing free medical services to members of the public since its arrival.
According to the medical team, the ship recorded 1241 outpatient visits and admitted 14 inpatients in the first four days of operations.
