The ban on Ferris wheel remains in place, says Minister for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations Agni Deo Singh.
Responding to a question from Opposition MP Parveen Kumar, Mr Singh said work was ongoing to determine whether these locally-made machines were safe.
“There is a lot of work involved in that, and it will take some time for us to finalise and then determine what is allowed and what is not going to be allowed,” he said.
“Safety is health, and safety is of utmost importance to us.”
The Ferris wheel ban was imposed in December last year after an incident at the Wairiki Sevens tournament where a 12-seater Ferris wheel malfunctioned.
The ministry, through the National Occupational Health and Safety Service, issued a prohibition notice stopping all Ferris wheels from operating until further notice.
