Rewa Football Legends secured a hard-fought 1-0 win against Suva Legends in the Annual Memorial Cup 2025 event at the Fiji FA Academy grounds in Vatuwaqa yesterday.
The significance of this special occasion lies in paying homage to the esteemed football icons who have left an enduring legacy on Fijian football and the broader community.
The memories of late greats such as Vilitati Lee, George Koi, Onnie Wong, Nicolas Rounds, and Kavaia were honoured and celebrated during the event.
The match itself was intense and competitive, with prominent soccer figures like Pita Rabo, Simione Tamanisau and Inia Boko showcasing their skills on the field.
Abdul Mannan, the organising chairman and coach of Rewa legends, expressed his gratitude for being able to host the memorial cup for the third consecutive year, particularly appreciating the favourable weather that added to the event’s charm.
“This event is not only about football, but also about honouring the memory of our brothers who contributed so much to the game and to our community,” said Mannan.
“It’s a day of remembrance, unity, and celebration. This is also about keeping our former players fit and connected, it serves as a wonderful reunion, with some of our former players even travelling from overseas to join us, which is something we are all looking forward to.”
Mannan extended his thanks to Fiji Football for providing the venue and supporting the event, acknowledging their understanding of the competition’s purpose.
He also expressed appreciation to the players for their participation, emphasising the value of coming together to play, reminisce, and strengthen the bonds forged during their playing days.
