Powervolt Suva Football Club head coach Maxwell Thaggard, also known as Babs Khan, anticipates a challenging first match against Lautoka as they prepare for the 2025 FMF Inter District Championship.
The last time Suva won the IDC tournament was in 2022, with a convincing 4-0 win over Navua at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
Since joining the team in just a month, Thaggard acknowledges that progress is underway.
He adds Suva secured the necessary points in three additional league games to qualify for the tournament, a goal they successfully accomplished.
Thaggard is now focused on preparing the team for the upcoming IDC matches.
“Looking at our pool matches, we have defending champions Labasa and Lautoka, it won’t be an easy game,” said Thaggard.
“Playing Lautoka in our first match, we know they are a good side, we can also see Ravinesh Kumar has come in as their head coach, he comes with a lot of experience, so it will be a tough first match for us.”
Thaggard emphasises the importance of taking each game as it comes, with Labasa also posing a significant challenge.
“We will one game at a time, Labasa also will be a force to be reckon with, so it’s all about how well a team prepares for this kind of tournament, and we are looking forward.
The match is scheduled for 6pm next Tuesday at 4R Stadium in Ba.
