THE fate of iTaukei Lands and Fisheries Commission chairman Apimeleki Tola will be decided once background information has been compiled.
Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu said he was only informed of Mr Tola’s bench warrant issued following a nine-month committal sentence in absentia.
Mr Tola had failed to appear in the Magistrate’s Court in Lautoka for his sentencing, in which he was convicted for assault and damaging property in October 2022.
“I have just been informed this morning, so I don’t have all the background,” he said. “The ministry is compiling all the information, and we will decide then, so it’s only fair to wait for that to be completed.”
The police confirmed to this newspaper that a bench warrant had been issued.
