OPPOSITION MP Viam Pillay is calling for the deployment of the military to guard the Lautoka Sugar Mill “at all costs”.

“Our past shows that when disciplined officers are present, our mills perform better and security is guaranteed,” he said as he expressed concern on the recent fire at the Rarawai mill in Ba and the constant breakdowns occurring at the Lautoka mill.

“We must protect this national asset from anyone who seeks to undermine us.

“This is about national security, plain and simple.

“The Ministry of Sugar must understand this: our one remaining mill must be protected at all costs. I have seen the reports of alleged sabotage. I have heard your fears.”
