The United States Embassy in Suva has announced a temporary pause on regular updates to its official Facebook page due to the lapse in appropriations resulting from the ongoing US government shutdown.

“Because of the lapse in appropriations, this Facebook account will not be updated regularly until full operations resume, with the exception of urgent safety and security information,” said a public message posted online.

The embassy reassured the public that scheduled passport and visa services—both in the United States and at U.S. Embassies and Consulates overseas will continue “as the situation permits” despite the shutdown.

Updates on consular services and operating status will be made available through the official travel website: travel.state.gov, the message noted.

The temporary disruption stems from a broader political impasse in Washington, D.C., where lawmakers have yet to reach a consensus on federal spending, prompting partial government closures.

The embassy emphasized that urgent safety or security information would still be shared, despite the limited activity on its social media platforms.
