The Lautoka Magistrates Court yesterday issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a senior member of the iTaukei Land and Fisheries Commission (TLFC).
He was charged with assault and damaging property, offences which he committed in October 2022.
Magistrate Shelyn Kiran issued a committal nine-month sentence in absentia yesterday after the individual failed to appear in court for sentencing.
Questions have been sent to Fiji Police on whether it has received a bench warrant for the arrest of the individual.
The TLFC is a statutory body constituted under the iTaukei Lands Act 1905 and the Fisheries Act 1941 to adjudicate disputes regarding land ownership, fishing rights and customary chiefly positions.
