Ra couple die after suspected fish poisoning

Two villagers of Namunamu Settlement in Mataso, Ra, died on Sunday night in a suspected case of food poisoning after reportedly consuming fish for dinner.

The deceased are husband and wife, both in their mid thirties.

A close family member told The Fiji Times the family ate a pufferfish,

Their teenage daughter, who also consumed the fish, is currently admitted at the Lautoka Aspen hospital.

The three had dinner on Sunday evening and began experiencing severe vomiting and weakness.

They were taken to the Rakiraki hospital after 10pm.

The Fiji Times sources confirm the woman passed away while on the way to the hospital while the man died at the hospital.

A post-mortem will be held today.
