Parliament heard yesterday a ban on ferries wheel amusement operators remains in place, pending further investigation into the safety of locally refurbished equipment.

Responding to a question raised by Opposition MP Praveen Bala, Minister for Employment, Agni Deo Singh, said the ban was enforced due to serious safety concerns, and authorities are currently conducting thorough assessments before any lifting of restrictions can be considered.

“The ban is still in place,” Minister Singh told Parliament.

“There is ongoing work to determine whether these locally done machines are safe enough or not, including assessing their age and condition.”

He stressed that public safety is the government’s top priority.

“There is a lot of work involved in that, and it will take some time for us to finalize and then determine what is allowed and what is not. Health and safety is of utmost importance to us,” he added.

MP Bala had asked the minister for an update on the status of the ban and whether local operators were being affected.

No timeline was provided for when the safety review will be completed.
