An initial report of a blaze at the Lautoka Sugar Mill last weekend confirmed it was likely caused by a cigarette.
However, police are not ruling out arson.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed investigations into the arson allegations were underway.
“The fire report says it was a fire at the rubbish dump located about 40 metres away from the mill, and initial investigation by FSC revealed that a cigarette was the likely cause of the fire,” she said.
“Investigation is, however, underway by Lautoka police.”
