HARDWORK and dedication have been the key factors in the success of the Taveuni under-20 rugby team, as they secured a well-deserved victory over Navosa with a score of 29-7, earning them a spot in the semi-finals of the Vodafone Vanua Trophy.

The match, which took place at Buckhurst Park in Suva yesterday, was a highly competitive game that showcased the determination and skill of both teams.

However, it was Taveuni who displayed an impressive defensive performance, dominating the game from the first half to the second and clinching the win.

Head coach Sefanaia Ravatu commended his team for their hard work and commitment leading up to the match.

He emphasised the sacrifices made by the players, who put in extra hours of training.

“The boys have trained extra hard for this match, blood sweat and tears we have shed on the field together, and getting this win is something special for the boys,” said Ravatu.

“We also couldn’t get the win with the Almighty for protecting us spiritually, the boys always put God first which is one of our strengths, and I’m grateful for the team we have this year.”

He expressed gratitude for the team’s support system and the fans who traveled from Taveuni to cheer them on during the match.

“Coming all the way from Taveuni wasn’t easy for the boys, few got sick, but it did not stop us from pushing ourselves, we came with an aim, and we will work towards it until the end.

“Navosa is a great team they have shown, to be tough but there is always going to be one winner and one loser, so I’m grateful for the game and now we focus on the semi-final.”

Despite the victory, Ravatu highlighted areas for improvement, specifically focusing on enhancing their ball work and shoring up their defensive skills.

He emphasised the importance of continued hard work and preparation as they gear up for the upcoming semi-final match.
