Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Aporosa Lutunauga has urged police officers across the country to prioritise their health, saying too many in the force are waiting until it is too late to seek medical help.
DCP Lutunauga said the Police Force continues to mourn the loss of officers who might still be alive today if medical intervention had come earlier.
“Seeking medical help is frequently left until it’s too late. This, tragically, has been the reality for many of our fallen,” he said.
DCP Lutunauga said each death within the force brings with it deep questions and regret.
“Each time we receive news of a comrade’s passing, we find ourselves asking, why and how or what could we have done differently.”
While speaking at the remembrance day at Labasa, he said, officers often put the needs of others ahead of their own, and in doing so, neglect their own well-being.
“Too often, in our dedication to serve others, we neglect our own health,” he said.
He said it was time for officers to change this pattern, for the sake of their families and the communities they serve.
