Miss National Fire Authority Ryhelle Aisea stepped out of her comfort zone and into the spotlight last night as she was crowned Queen of the 2025 Vodafone Hibiscus Festival, presented by FMF, at the Suva Civic Centre auditorium.
The 21-year-old, who had once hesitated to enter the pageant, told The Fiji Times her journey was about more than just a crown.
“I was in your shoes. I was contemplating whether or not to participate,” she said.
“And when I made the decision, I stand here now, and I am super proud of the girl that made that decision. It’s a very difficult thing to come out of your comfort zone, to step into bigger shoes. But trust me, the reward is beyond compare.”
Aisea described her win as an answered prayer and a sign that a higher purpose lay ahead.
“I feel so blessed. My prayer started just asking for an opportunity, and it got answered when this presented itself. Now that I’ve won, I feel that God has a greater plan for me and has opened a new pathway. I’m ready to take on His call.”
She also acknowledged the strong support system behind her.
“When I say family, I mean my parents, my extended family, my returning family back on the island, and everyone that has contributed to my upbringing here in Suva — as well as my National Fire Authority family. It’s a true testament that all our hard work has paid off.”
Despite facing criticism online during the pageant, Aisea said she focused on the positive and chose to rise above the negativity.
“I’m not going to lie — there was a lot of shade on the internet. But I also had some heartwarming comments and encouragement, and I learned that one negative comment doesn’t compare to the hearts of many that I touched.”
With the crown now hers, Aisea’s focus shifts back to her studies.
“School is next for me, honestly. My lecturers, my tutors and my group members have all been waiting for me, so that’s probably the first thing that’s waiting.”
Her message is simple: step forward, even if you’re afraid.
“Do it. Definitely do it. Leaving your comfort zone might be scary, but it’s the first step toward discovering just how strong and capable you really are.”
