SUGARCANE farmers will be able to purchase fuel at a discounted rate with their loyalty card after registering their vehicles as part of a collaborative initiative between Pacific Energy and the Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF).

The official agreement signing was held on Saturday in Nukuloa, Ba.

While officiating at the launch, Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry Minister Charan Jeath Singh said the loyalty card programe was first launched in December last year with 2222 growers already registered.

“Through it, farmers receive discounts ranging

from two per cent to 12.5 per cent at participating service providers, including private hospitals, pharmacies, retailers, hardware stores and machinery dealers,” Mr Singh said.

“This agreement will run for the next three years.”

He also commended the SCGF for their swift response in assisting the farmers impacted by the Rarawai mill fire.

“From Monday, September 22 until the end of the crushing season, they will waive all loan application and documentation fees for western division growers for loans relating to cane harvesting expenses.

“This is the kind of timely support our farmers need.”

Pacific Energy Sales Manager West and North Nemani Kobiti said the initiative was discussed last year after a service station was opened at Nukuloa, last year.

“The intention is to give back to the farming community.

“So for each farmer that actually signs up, when they actually have a card presented at any Pacific Energy or selected Pacific Energy service station, they will enjoy a five cents per litre discount.

“In the event that the farmer doesn’t have a vehicle, they don’t lose out because we allow an immediate member of a family within the household that’s got a vehicle to be able to fill the form and enjoy the benefit as well,” Mr Kobiti said.
