THE Tailevu Rugby Union is on the right track towards building a sustainable grassroots development process, says union president Joe Rodan.
He shared those remarks after the team defeated Nadroga in a close 31-29 finish in round six of the Skipper Cup at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on Saturday.
“The Tailevu Rugby Union, together with the Vanua Vakaturaga o Tailevu, has invested heavily in the future of our players,” Rodan said.
“This partnership is not only about producing good rugby players but also shaping responsible citizens who will contribute to our province and our nation.”
In a press release on the union’s official page, Rodan also acknowledged the work carried out by the team in helping clinch the victory over the Stallions on their home turf.
“We thank Nadroga Rugby for the tough and competitive game,” he said.
“Matches like these help us measure our growth and progress as a provincial union. I am proud of our players’ fighting spirit and discipline on the field.”
The union also works with its players on off-field initiatives such as the Career Pathways Process and the Life After Rugby program.
With these initiatives, the players are prepared for various opportunities besides their work on the rugby field and ensure they are equipped with the necessary tools, skills, knowledge and resilience to achieve success in a personal and professional capacity.
Rodan added that the sport had greater meaning for Tailevu.
“Rugby is more than just a sport for Tailevu; it is a tool for unity, empowerment and transformation.
“Together with the Vanua Vakaturaga o Tailevu, we are building a legacy that combines sporting excellence with positive social impact.”
In round seven of the Skipper Cup this Saturday, Tailevu will face Nadi at Churchill Park in Lautoka at 3pm.
