IN a powerful show of advocacy against drug use, youths and members of the Mount Zion Cathedral Sunday School marched through Lautoka City on Saturday with placards displaying calls to action.
The church’s Sunday School teacher, Sekove Vadei, said the initiative was devised following a discussion with his church colleagues.
“Today’s theme is ‘coloring Lautoka with hope’, and that is giving hope to those who need hope, especially those who attended this and we organised with our board of deacons,” Mr Vadei said.
“We see this as a first stepping stone to help those who are drug addicts, who are abusing drugs and also about child abuse and sex trafficking.”
He said the different colored shirts worn by the youths and children were elaborately planned.
“They came with all the different colours and the different banners, and you see that our colour arrangement carries meaning.
“In the first group they were wearing red and that is signifying the blood of Jesus Christ, and he gives hope to those who are lost. The last group was wearing white and that shows what happens after Jesus has covered everyone’s sins and forgiven everyone then you become clean and pure”
Mr Vadei also emphasised the importance of partnership while referencing the presence of the Fiji Police Force at the march and event.
“We need to work hand in and with government stakeholders, especially the Commissioner Western, we sent our letter, and we received the approval for the program.”
